Greene County has a few septic system regulations that vary from the state of Missouri. We've listed a few of them below.

Greene County Septic System Specifications
- Minimum septic tank size is 1,000 gallons for any residence up to and including a 3 bedroom home.
- All residential systems are sized at the rate of 120 gallons per bedroom.
- Standard absorption trenches are not permitted in soils with a loading rate of less than 0.2 gallons per day.
- All absorption field sizing is based upon information obtained from a soil evaluation performed by qualified individuals.
- Absorption areas are based on soil loading rates with a minimum requirement of 600 sq. ft. for any residence.
- Disposal area setback to property line = 10 ft.
- Sewage tank setback from swimming pool = 25 ft.
- Disposal area setback from swimming pool = 25 ft.
- Lagoon setback from swimming pool = 25 ft.

Anyone performing septic system installation or repairs in Springfield, MO must be licensed as an installer with the state of Missouri and Greene County. The only exception is for homeowners performing their own repairs. They are not required to be licensed, but must demonstrate the knowledge needed for the work they are performing and all work is subject to inspection.

- The sewage tank shall be placed so that it is accessible for the removal of liquids and accumulated solids.
- The sewage tank shall be placed on firm and settled soil capable of bearing the weight of the tank and its contents.
- The sewage tank must be watertight and designed and constructed to withstand all lateral earth pressures under saturated soil conditions with the tank empty.
- The sewage tank must be designed and constructed to withstand a minimum of two feet (2′) of saturated earth cover above the tank top.
- Access to the sewage tank shall be provided over both the inlet and outlet devices and to each tank compartment by means of either a removable cover or a manhole. Where the top of the tank is located more than eighteen inches (18″) below the finished grade.

- 4 bedrooms minimum tank size = 1250 gallon tank
- 5 bedrooms minimum tank size = 1500 gallon tank
